ASTEROGUE - a roguelike
Welcome to ASTEROGUE! You zip a little spaceship around and blast asteroids.
Features 15 upgrades, 7 palettes, and 7 weapons: infinite* replayability!
CONTROLS:
WASD to move, ARROW KEYS to turn, shoot, and Zip. Double-tap a TURN key to spin around. Press ARROW DOWN while moving to Zip.
MENUS:
Press P to pause.
ARROW UP and ARROW DOWN to select, RIGHT ARROW to confirm
UPGRADE LIST:
Callback Ping - Recalls your Zip if you move into danger.
Candle - Doubles invulnerability timer when damaged, adds some to Zip endlag.
Energy Surge - Add 5 max Energy, and restores energy when damaged.
Gem Magnet - Greatly increases gem collect field size.
Gem Powered - Refills your energy gauge slightly when you collect a gem.
Gempop - Fires a shot when you collect a gem.
Instashield - Press ARROW DOWN to defend.
Lightspeed Bash - Makes your Zip deal damage.
Nuclear - Small asteroids explode when destroyed, with possible chain reaction.
Panacea - Add 4 HP and 1 max HP.
Parting Gift - Drop an explosive when you Zip.
Peril - Deal double damage when in Burnout.
Satella - Creates a satellite that deals damage. Hold DOWN ARROW to slow it.
Spacewarp - Lets your shots wrap around the screen once.
Zip Zap - Damages asteroids around you after you Zip.

Very polished, super cool!!
The game is good, but my old-timey brain doens't want to adjust to your newfangled controls-- is there a way to get the thrust-based movement from the original asteroid in this?
no, there isn’t–it would require a pretty heavy rewrite of the movement code. if it helps any, think of it more like an FPS (you can even use Shift to Zip instead of the down key)
